2022 Music Favorites

Every year I like to round up my favorite songs of the year. It is always fun to reflect and remember why I love these songs so much. You can listen through the YouTube playlist here.

1.“Trapeze”- Patty Griffin (feat. Emmylou Harris) Aunt E. got me this CD. She saw that Emmylou was on it and I love this song for that reason.

3. “This Body Isn’t All There Is To Who I Am” - Rodney Crowell A song from this album made the favorites last year. I love the line “when my time runs it course, I’ll return to the Source.”

5. “Sister”- Magnolia Boulevard A lady at the Lights of Liberty Theater recommended this band to me. They are from KY.

7. “Little Bit Sweet”- The Wood Brothers I won tickets to see the Wood Brothers at the Ryman (thanks WMOT). When they sung this song, it was magical. You can see it in our Nashville vlog.

9. “Gathering Flowers For The Master’s Bouquet”- The Stanley Brothers A beautiful perspective on death.

11. “Church Street Blues”- Trey Hensley The next couple of songs are the result of our trip to Delfest. I hadn’t really listened to Church Street Blues before this version, but it is so cool.

13. “Odds of Getting Even”- Della Mae We saw Della Mae at Americanafest 2019. We saw them again at Delfest. This is my favorite song of theirs.

15. “Fox on the Run”- The Country Gentlemen Seldom Scene played this at Delfest. This version is my favorite.

17. “Way of the Triune God”- Tyler Childers My favorite song off Tyler’s new album. I like the change in subject matter for him.

19. “Sunshine”-Red Clay Strays YouTube randomly recommended this to me. They do a pretty good job at that.

21. “Dirtiest Uniform”- Chicago Farmer We should all want the dirtiest uniform.

23. “Trains I Missed”- Balsam Range I believe this was another Pandora recommendation.

25. “Give Me Some Wheels”- Suzy Bogguss I was listening to an interview Suzy did back in the 90’s or early 2000’s. They mentioned this song and I hadn’t heard it. A fun upbeat tune from her.

2. “Wrecking Ball”- Gillian Welch At first, this was not my favorite Gillian Welch album. I think it probably is now.

4. “Harbor of Love” - The Stanley Brothers You can’t go wrong with the Stanley Brothers. The guitar on this is fantastic.

6. “Lonesome as It Gets”- Ian Noe Another KY picker. I really liked Ian’s first album. I like this one too.

8. “Lord, I Want To Go To Heaven”- Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver The harmonies on this are just too good.

10. “Hope Shadows Fear”- Town Mountain Aunt E. put me onto Town Mountain. I could listen to this on repeat all day (and I have).

12. “Other Shore”- California Honeydrops- These guys know how to put on a show. I didn’t know them before Delfest, but they were awesome. Del actually covered this song on his newest record.

14. “On the Sea of Life”- Doyle Lawson Mom and me went to an annual bluegrass concert in Somerset. This was a song that one of the bands played. I had heard it before, but hearing it again sparked my interest.

16. “I’ve Never Been This Homesick Before”- Paul Williams And The Victory Trio Pandora would recommend this song to me when I was in middle school. I rediscovered it this year. Paul Williams is awesome.

18. “Turning Onto You”- First Aid Kit I have loved this band since seeing their “My Silver Lining” video in high school. We are going to see them this year. So excited!

20. “Living On The Hallelujah Side”- Paul Williams and the Victory Trio Classic bluegrass gospel.

22. “Nowhere Train”- Carlene Carter We saw Carlene with Emmylou a year or two ago. I found this album at Half Price Books. I really liked this song.

24. “Hand In Hand With Jesus”- The Stanley Brothers “Now I’m walking free as air, hand in hand with Jesus”

26. “Why Walk When You Can Fly”- Mary Chapin Carpenter Saw MCC at the Amp this year. I love the fiddle in the album version of this song.
